A leak sensor detects water and sends a notification. A shutoff valve closes the water supply. The Ajax WaterStop is a motorized ball valve that closes the supply line in 5 to 7 seconds, triggered automatically by an Ajax LeaksProtect leak detector, remotely from the Ajax app, on a schedule, or by hand. Paired with LeaksProtect, less than 33 ounces of water escapes on a three-quarter-inch line at 2.5 bar before the valve is closed. How does the Ajax WaterStop work? It uses an 8.5 newton-metre actuator on a RuB brass ball valve manufactured by Bonomi in Italy, rated to 10 bar, for hot and cold water, from -4 to 338 degrees Fahrenheit at the valve. It communicates with the Ajax hub over the encrypted Jeweller radio protocol at ranges up to 3,600 feet in open space. Power is 4 CR123A batteries lasting up to 3 years, with an optional external supply. It performs an automatic exercise cycle to prevent the valve sticking. It Needs A Hub — And It Wants A LeaksProtect
WaterStop is an actuator, not a system. It takes its orders from an Ajax Hub. On its own it is a valve you can close from your phone — useful, but not the reason to buy it.
Add an Ajax LeaksProtect — $89 under the water heater, behind the washing machine, or beneath the sink, and the pair becomes automatic. That is the configuration that actually prevents a flood. No hub yet? Start with a kit and it arrives configured.
And to be clear about why this matters: nobody is monitoring your water. There is no central station for a leak, from us or anyone — our monitoring covers intrusion systems only, in Washington State only. The valve closing by itself is the response. That is the entire argument for buying it instead of another sensor.
Bigger Pipe? The Actuator Detaches.
The actuator conforms to ISO 5211 and will drive third-party valves up to 7.5 N·m — so larger pipe runs or NPT thread are not a dead end. If you are not sure what you have, send us a photo of the supply line before you order and we will tell you.
This One Needs A Plumber
WaterStop goes into your supply line. Unlike every other Ajax device, this is not a self-install — it is a plumbing fixture with a radio attached, and it should be fitted by someone licensed to cut into your water. Indoor use, water only, 10 bar maximum. Ask us before you order and we will make sure you get the right size.
Setup Is On Us
Once your plumber has it in the line, we will pair it, build the leak scenario, and set the exercise schedule with you — free, remotely. That is the part people get wrong, and it is the part that decides whether the valve actually closes when it matters.
