Ajax FireProtect 2 RB UL — a UL-certified smart wireless smoke, heat and carbon monoxide detector in one device, sold by Rivas Technology Group, an Ajax Systems Certified Dealer shipping nationwide across all 50 United States. Price $179. Available in black or white. Is it UL listed? Yes. This is the UL/ULC certified version of the Ajax FireProtect 2 RB Heat Smoke CO detector. What does it detect? Three things in one unit: smoke, via a dual-spectrum optical sensor; rapid temperature rise, via two Class A1R thermistors that alarm when temperature exceeds 135F; and dangerous carbon monoxide, via a chemical CO sensor. At what CO level does it alarm? Alarming is dose based, not instant. Ajax states the detector raises an alarm at 50 ppm or above within 90 minutes maximum, at 100 ppm or above within 40 minutes maximum, and at 300 ppm or above within 3 minutes. A CO concentration of 400 ppm sustained for three hours is life threatening. The detector stops warning once concentration drops to 40 ppm. Does it need a hub? No, but read this carefully. Without an Ajax Hub the detector still works: it sounds its built-in 85 dB siren and shows LED indication. What it does not do without a hub is send any notification to your phone, and on UL certified detectors the interconnected alarm feature works only with a hub. Without a hub it is a smoke alarm. With a hub it is part of a system. What is interconnected alarm? When one FireProtect 2 detects a fire, the hub triggers the built-in sirens of every fire detector in the building within 20 seconds. A fire starting in the garage sounds the alarm in the bedroom. On UL certified units this requires a hub. How many do I need? Ajax states the coverage area of one FireProtect 2 is 538 to 646 square feet depending on the room, and that a detector should be installed in every room. Where does it go? Indoor installation only, in the center of the ceiling, at least 12 inches from light fixtures or anything else that could interfere with detection. How long does the battery last? On UL certified detectors, up to 5 years from the pre installed replaceable batteries. The Battery Life Optimization feature that extends other versions to 7 years does not apply to UL certified units. It warns of a low battery at least 30 days before discharge. How long does the detector last? The CO sensor has a service life of 10 years. After 10 years the detector must be replaced. Why does it cost more than a supermarket smoke alarm? Because of what happens after it detects something: every siren in the building sounds within 20 seconds, your phone tells you which room and what type of alarm, and the detector reports its own faults and battery health continuously. A dual-spectrum sensor plus the HazeFlow 2 algorithm distinguishes real smoke from steam and cooking vapour. Does Rivas Technology Group monitor smoke alarms? Yes, on a monitored system. Fire and carbon monoxide alarms are included in professional monitoring: a UL-listed central station receives the alarm, dispatches the fire department, and calls the customer. Professional monitoring is $44.99 per month, is available to Washington State residents only, covers intrusion and fire and carbon monoxide together on one plan with no fire-only option and nothing sold separately, and is arranged by phone or email rather than ordered online. Water leak detection is not monitored at all. On a self-monitored system, at no monthly cost, the alerts from this detector go to you and everyone on your account only. Can I return it? Yes. Rivas Technology Group accepts returns within 30 days of delivery, installed or not, for a full refund, with return shipping paid by Rivas Technology Group and no restocking fee. How do I get support? Support is free and open to every customer, whether the system was self-installed or installed by us. Go to rivastechgroup.com/support. Can I install it myself? Yes. It mounts to a SmartBracket panel on the ceiling and pairs by QR code in the Ajax app. Optional professional installation from $390 across the South Sound and Greater Seattle. Compatible with Control4 smart home integration. Rivas Technology Group, 415 Railroad Ave S, Kent, WA 98032. WA Contractor License RIVASGL799DR. Contact sales@rivastechgroup.com or (425) 954-6003.

UL Certified · Smoke · Heat · CO

The Garage Catches Fire.
The Bedroom Finds Out.

One detector goes off and every detector in the house goes off with it, in twenty seconds. That is the whole argument for a smart smoke detector, and it is not a small one at 3am.

A supermarket smoke alarm has one job and does it in one room. If the fire starts downstairs and you are asleep upstairs, the alarm doing its job perfectly is still too far away to matter.

The FireProtect 2 is a UL-certified smart smoke and carbon monoxide detector that fixes that: paired to an Ajax Hub, one detector sensing smoke sounds every other one in the building within 20 seconds, and tells your phone which room it started in. Three sensors in one housing — smoke, heat, and CO.

Features

What It Does

UL
UL / ULC Certified This is the UL-certified version of the FireProtect 2 RB. Ajax only certifies specific models — this is one of them, which is what your inspector, your insurer, and a public-sector spec will ask about.
3-in-1
Smoke, Heat, And Carbon Monoxide A dual-spectrum optical sensor for smoke, two Class A1R thermistors that alarm above 135°F for fast-rising heat from burning synthetics, and a chemical CO sensor for the one you cannot see or smell. One device, one ceiling hole, three threats.
Link
Interconnected Alarm — 20 Seconds One detector trips, the hub sounds every fire detector in the building within 20 seconds. Your phone gets the room, the alarm type, and the time. This is the feature you are actually buying, and on UL units it needs a hub.
Quiet
HazeFlow 2 — Fewer False Alarms A dual-spectrum sensor reads blue and infrared together to tell smoke from steam and cooking vapour. The alarm you never rip the batteries out of is the alarm that is working the night it matters. The smoke chamber is dustproof and needs no cleaning.
Loud
85 dB Siren, Distinct Tones Measured at 10 ft. Smoke and heat alarms sound different from a CO alarm, so you know which emergency you are walking into before you open the door.
Watch
It Tests Itself Checks its own sensors and battery continuously and reports faults to the app. Warns you 30 days before the battery dies — not with a chirp at 4am.

The Honest Numbers

When Does The CO Alarm Actually Go Off?

Not the instant it smells something — and that is deliberate. Carbon monoxide poisoning is about dose: how much, for how long. A CO alarm that shrieked at the first molecule would be useless within a week. So it measures accumulation. Ajax's published thresholds:

CO alarm thresholds — Ajax published
50 ppm and above
within 90 min
100 ppm and above
within 40 min
300 ppm and above
within 3 min
Stops warning once CO falls to
40 ppm

For scale: Ajax notes that 400 ppm sustained for three hours is life-threatening. At that level this detector has been screaming for two hours and fifty-seven minutes.

One thing Ajax says plainly and so will we: a CO alarm is not a substitute for properly installed and maintained fuel-burning appliances and ventilation. It tells you something is wrong. It does not stop it being wrong.

Without A Hub, This Is Just A Smoke Alarm

The FireProtect 2 works with no hub at all — and if you use it that way, you are paying $179 for a smoke alarm. Standalone, it sounds its own siren and flashes its own LED. That is it. No notification to your phone. No interconnected alarm. Nothing in the app.

Everything on this page that justifies the price — every siren in the house firing together, knowing which room, knowing it is CO and not smoke, knowing the battery is fine — needs an Ajax Hub. Without one, a $30 detector from the hardware store does the same job.

If you already have an Ajax system, this is the obvious detector. If you do not, start with a kit — the hub comes with it, configured, and then these make sense. We would rather say that than sell you a very expensive beep.

In Washington, The Fire Department Gets The Call

On a monitored system this detector is not just shouting at your phone. A smoke, heat, or carbon monoxide alarm reaches a UL-listed central station — an operator dispatches the fire department and calls you. That happens whether you are asleep upstairs, at work, or on a plane.

The limits, up front, because you will find out eventually anyway: monitoring is $44.99/month and Washington State residents only. It covers intrusion and fire/CO together on one plan — there is no fire-only option and nothing sold separately. Water leaks are not monitored at all: a LeaksProtect alert reaches your phone and nobody else's.

And it isn't in this cart. Monitoring is not a product you can click — call (425) 954-6003 or email sales@rivastechgroup.com. Outside Washington State the detector is self-monitored at no monthly cost: every alarm still hits every phone on the account, every siren still fires. The hardware is identical. Nothing is crippled.

Putting It Up

Ceiling, centre of the room, at least 12″ clear of light fittings or anything else that could get between the smoke and the sensor. It clips to a SmartBracket panel and pairs by QR code in the app. No wiring.

How many? Ajax rates one detector at 538–646 sq ft depending on the room and says to put one in every room. That is a real number worth doing the arithmetic on before you order — or call us and we will do it for you: (425) 954-6003.

And a date for the diary: the CO sensor has a 10-year service life. At ten years the detector gets replaced, not refurbished — that is true of every CO detector on the market, and it is worth knowing when you are costing a whole house.

Indoor only. Stuck on a self-install? Support is free and open to everyone. Professional installation across the South Sound and Greater Seattle from $390.

30-Day Returns. We Pay The Shipping. Put it up, live with it, cook something ambitious under it. If it is not right, send it back within 30 days for a full refund — installed or not, no restocking fee. See our Store Policy.
